As the dump truck approached, the traffic light turned red, police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said in the release. The dump truck drove into the left turn lane before entering the intersection, where it struck the Kia, which had entered the intersection on a green light.

The dump truck struck the left side of the Kia, and the force of the collision redirected the truck and Kia into the Nissan.

The Kia came to a stop against a guardrail. The dump truck and the Nissan remained in contact until they struck a guardrail. The Nissan came to a stop. However, the dump truck continued through the guardrail and came to rest in the wood line.

Charges are expected to be filed against Chatham.

The police Selective Traffic Enforcement Program Unit continues to investigate the crash.
