Fire Badly Burns Marietta Woman, 69

The blaze broke out on the fifth floor of the Henderson Arms Apartments on Saturday morning.

The fire began in the kitchen of the burned woman while she was cooking, WSB-TV reported.

The woman sustained burns over more than 30 percent of her body after she spread the fire while trying to put it out, WSB said.

The fire did not reach beyond her apartment, and all other residents were able to return to their apartments in the senior-living facility Saturday, the Marietta Daily Journal said.

A 69-year-old woman is in critical condition with serious burns after a fire this morning at the in Marietta, city fire and police officials said.

The is investigating the cause of the fire, which started around 11:17 a.m. Saturday.

Firefighters contained the blaze to the fifth floor of the apartment building at 55 Henderson St., but smoke spread to the sixth and seventh floors.

The city helped firefighters evacuate the building's 118 residents but allowed most to return this afternoon. Some residents are being relocated because of damage to their homes.

Public safety officials did not identify the burned woman, who was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.
