Fire Destroys 2 Mobile Homes Owned by Marietta Church

The two structures, located on property owned by First Baptist Church of Marietta, were destroyed in an early Monday morning blaze possibly caused by lightning strikes.

Two mobile homes located on property in Cherokee County owned by First Baptist Church of Marietta were destroyed in a fire possibly caused by lighting strikes.

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to the blaze around 6:45 a.m. July 21 in the 800 block of BridgeMill Avenue near Canton, according to the agency's press release.

Firefighters arrived onto the scene and found the two structures "fully involved," the agency noted. 

The property contained a total of five double-wide mobile homes, all of which were located on property owned by the church. The church operates its Chapel Knoll at Lake Allatoona facility at the location, according to its website

While it's uncertain if lightning strikes are behind the fire, Cherokee County E-911 received calls reporting six lightning strikes to homes, Cherokee fire stated. None of the homes received significant damage, however.

Cherokee fire officials are currently investigating the fire.
