Hickory Hills Student Rides Home on Firetruck

Judith Borazz-Martinez was the first-place winner of the fire safety poster contest.

It's not every day that a kid gets to ride home on a firetruck, but that's what Judith Borazz-Martinez got to do after she won a poster contest as part of Prevention Week.

Poster contest winners include:

  • First Place: Judith Borazz-Martinez, 5th grade, .
  • Second Place (tie): McCartney Holland, 5th grade, , and Sarabeth McClure, 5th grade, .
  • Third Place: Wendy Navichoque, 5th grade, .

"Students learn about fire prevention from kindergarten through fifth grade, so the poster contest gives the fire department a chance to see what they've learned," Marietta Fire Lt. Patrick Stewart said in a press release. "We give them the topic, based on fire prevention week, and they show us what they've learned by drawing a poster."

The theme of the contest was "Protect your family from fire." The contest was open to all fifth-graders in Marietta. Nine schools participated. The public voted and chose the winners.
