Cobb police arrested a man Friday afternoon and charged him with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of a Mableton man late Thursday night.

According to Sgt. Dana Pierce, the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Squad apprehended 23-year old Otis Laws without incident and he is currently being held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center. Laws has also been charged with battery.

Investigators believe there was a verbal dispute between two groups of males at the Mableton Reserve Apartment complex around 11:30 p.m. During the argument, one male, identified as 36-year-old Quintaurum Gardner of Mableton, was hit in the face by Laws.

Detectives believe that after being hit in the face, Gardner fell and struck his head on the pavement. Gardner, who was unconscious at the time, was transported to the Atlanta Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.
