Lawyer Busted in Cobb Jail Sex Case

Michael Winner is accused of trading drugs and legal aid for views of breasts and promises of more.

A Sandy Springs lawyer was arrested Thursday and charged with smuggling contraband into the to trade for sex with inmates.

Michael Stuart Winner, 45, now is an inmate himself, held in the Cobb jail on $10,000 bond while facing eight felony charges: four counts of conspiracy to commit a crime; three counts of trading with inmates without the warden’s consent; and one count of using a communication facility to commit a drug felony.

He was arrested Thursday afternoon outside his home in the 3200 block of Santa Fe Parkway in Sandy Springs, booking records show.

Winner smuggled drugs and cigarettes into the jail to trade for sexual favors from at least two female inmates in private attorney-client rooms, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Inmates would expose their breasts to Winner, who watched from the other side of a glass partition, Cobb Sheriff Neil Warren told The Marietta Daily Journal. In exchange, Winner brought them prescription drugs and did legal work.

Warren said there were promises of sex after the women got out of jail, the MDJ reported, adding that the number of inmates involved is under investigation.

The Mercer University law school graduate has been a member of the Georgia Bar since November 2006, according to the bar directory, and had his license suspended for about six weeks in mid-2010 for failing to respond to a discipline inquiry.
