Man Dies After Crashing Into Building

The motorist had suffered a heart attack as he waited at a Marietta traffic signal Tuesday night.

A Cartersville man died Tuesday night when his pickup truck crashed into a vacant building near a busy intersection in East Marietta. 

 identified the victim as James Franklin Griffin, 68. According to The Marietta Daily Journal, Griffin suffered a heart attack as he was waiting at a traffic signal at Roswell Road and Powers Ferry Road around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the victim's late-model red Chevrolet Silverado truck rolled through the intersection and through the front walls of the empty building, located at 1323 Roswell Road.

Police said the truck was completely inside the building when fire and rescue crews discovered the man in cardiac arrest, and that Griffin was pronounced dead at WellStar Kennestone Hospital.

No other people or vehicles were involved in the accident, which is still under investigation. Anyone with information should call Marietta Police Officer Michael Gardner at 770-794-5266.
