Marietta Bicyclist Killed on Powder Springs Road

A Marietta man riding his bicycle on Powder Springs Road was struck by two vehicles and pronounced dead at the scene.

The Marietta Police Department is investigating a pedestrian fatality crash that occurred on Powder Springs Road near Chestnut Hill Road on Monday, Nov. 4, at around 8 p.m.

The initial on scene investigation reveals that the victim, identified as 49-year-old Danny Nation, of Marietta, was riding his bicycle in the northbound lanes of Powder Springs Road, according to Marietta Police Public Information Officer David Baldwin.

It is believed that Nation attempted to cross the northbound lanes and was struck by a 1994 Cadillac and then by a 1998 Mitsubishi 3000, Baldwin said. Both vehicles stopped immediately.

The drivers of the vehicles called 911 and attempted to render aid to Nation. Nation suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The area where Nation was crossing was dark, and he was not wearing any reflective clothing. The bike had a head light but no signs of a rear reflector or light.

The crash investigation is still active but it does not appear that either driver will face charges.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Geoff Culpepper at 770-794-5357.
