Marietta Driver Involved in Fatal Crash

A man died after a Friday night crash where his Chevrolet was struck twice at the intersection of Cobb Parkway and Akers Mill Road near Cumberland Mall in Vinings.

A fatal crash occurred Friday evening at the intersection of Cobb Parkway and Akers Mill Road near Cumberland Mall in Vinings, according to the Cobb County Police Department.

Investigators said that the driver of a gray 2009 Chevrolet Impala was attempting to turn right onto Cobb Parkway from Akers Mill Road on a red light when he was struck by a maroon 1999 Mitsubishi Montero.

After it was hit, the Chevrolet continued on in an easterly direction where it was struck a second time by a gray 2012 Toyota Camry, while the Mitsubishi overturned on its roof and came to an uncontrolled rest in the southbound lanes of Cobb Parkway, said Cobb police spokesman Dana Pierce.

The male driver of the Chevrolet was transported by ambulance to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Authorities have not released the name of the deceased driver pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Mitsubishi has been identified as 35-year-old Viengkhong Thilakhoun of Atlanta, and was transported by ambulance to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital where she was treated for non life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Toyota, 26-year-old Shawnta Herrington of Marietta, declined medical treatment at the scene, said Pierce.

Investigators said that the deceased driver may have experienced some type of medical distress which caused the chain reaction crash.

Anyone with information about the fatal accident is asked to call 770-499-3987.

Good grief, if the rifle can kill someone, why on earth would you give it to a five-year-old? ThisRead More one just boggles my mind. I hope that even the NRA has a problem with this.

This is a fine example of freedom being too much to handle for some folks. The idiots who gave theRead More kid the gun should be jailed. Its obvious that a 5 year old should neither posses, nor handle a firearm period. Having said that I am a full supporter of the Second Amendment and the NRA. However we cannot measure the validity of the right to bear arms by using these idiot parents as a case study.
