Marietta Fire Assistant Chief, Fire Marshal Scott Tucker to Retire

The city of Marietta's assistant chief and fire marshal Scott Tucker will retire from the line of duty at the end of November.

Chief Tucker began his career with the city on July 8, 1982, at the age of 19. He became a certified firefighter within the first six months and completed his emergency medical technician training within the next year. Chief Tucker rode and drove fire trucks and rescue vehicles for the next ten years.

In 1992, Tucker started his training in the Fire Marshal Office by becoming an inspector, investigator and plan review examiner for the city while also attending Chattahoochee Tech for additional education. In 1993, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and attended the North Georgia Law Enforcement Academy to become a police officer. 

In 1994, Tucker took on the role as the city's primary fire investigator and by 1997 Chief Tucker was named the president of the Metro Fire Investigators Association and brought the arson conviction rate to 77 percent inside the city of Marietta. During this time, he investigated hundreds of fires working with the Marietta Fire Department, the private sector and the ATF task force. In 2001, Tucker was promoted to commander of the Fire Marshal's Office and in 2009, he was again promoted to the rank of assistant chief /fire marshal.

"It is with mixed emotions that the Fire Department says goodbye to Chief Tucker," said Marietta Fire Chief Jackie Gibbs. "Scott has contributed so much in service to our city and in protecting our citizens, but I am happy he will get to spend more time with his wife and children. He leaves big shoes to fill, but I look forward to seeing what he will do in this next chapter of his life."

Upon his retirement, Chief Tucker plans to pursue other areas of public service and spend time with his wife, Cindy, and children, Logan, a Cobb County firefighter, Caitlyn and Dawson, both of whom attend Mount Paran Christian School where Chief Tucker is also a volunteer wrestling coach.
