Marietta Firefighter Dies After Collapsing at Scene of Auto Accident

Marietta Fire Fighter Engineer Lonnie Nutt died Thursday after collapsing during a call to an automobile accident on Whitlock Avenue. Nutt began his career with the City of Marietta in May of 1994.

Marietta Fire Engineer Lonnie Nutt "succumbed to a medical issue he experienced after collapsing during a call" while providing aide to an injured motorist, according to a statement released by the Marietta Fire Department Thursday evening.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. on March 7, the Marietta Fire Department responded to an automobile accident with a report of injuries on Whitlock Avenue, according to the statement.

Fire Engineer Lonnie Nutt drove a Marietta Fire commander and firefighter on Engine 53 to the scene. When they arrived on the scene and began to assist with the injured, Fire Engineer Nutt fell to the ground with a medical issue of his own, according to the statement.

Firefighters from Marietta began rendering care and assisted Metro Ambulance with transport to Kennestone Hospital. Fire Engineer Nutt succumbed to his medical issue after arriving at the hospital, according to the statement from the Marietta Fire Department.

Lonnie Nutt began his career with the City of Marietta in May of 1994. He has served Marietta as a firefighter, inspector, investigator and currently fire engineer.
