Officer Kills 18-Year-Old Gunman

Police say the dead man and two others were robbing a couple at the Autumn View apartments.

A Marietta police officer killed an armed man early today in the process of stopping a home invasion and robbery.

Three men accosted a couple in the parking lot of the Autumn View apartment complex on Franklin Road on the east side of the city about 12:30 a.m., said Marietta police spokeswoman Jennifer Murphy.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution first reported the shooting.

The 911 call came from someone in the area who witnessed the attack, Murphy said.

The men forced the couple into their apartment and were there when police arrived. Officers surrounded the apartment. At that point, the only assailant with a gun grabbed the male victim.
