Discovery of Backpack with Meth-Making Ingredients Shut Down Roads

Police have shut down a section of Northwest Parkway and Franklin Road.

Police say a backpack that contained ingredients to manufacture methamphetamine caused Friday’s shutdown of roads and evacuation of businesses.

The Marietta Police and Fire Department has shut down a section of Northwest Parkway and Franklin Road after locating a possible portable methamphetamine lab.

Police spokesman David Baldwin said the roads would be shut down "indefinitely."

"Hazmat crews are on scene and investigators are en route," he said in a media alert. "All surrounding businesses have been evacuated as a precaution."
