Marietta School Bus, Car Collision Injures 15

Fifteen people were injured when a school bus and a car collided at the intersection of Polk Street and North Marietta Parkway Friday morning.

The accident occurred around 7:15 a.m. when a car (with a mom and her seventh-grade son) turning left onto Polk Street from the North Marietta Parkway “failed to yield to oncoming traffic and was broadsided by a school bus,” Marietta Police Officer David Baldwin said.

The 12-year-old boy in the car was airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite with life-threatening injuries, Baldwin said.

Thirteen children from the bus and the bus driver were taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Two of the children went by ambulance, and 11 were taken to the hospital on another school bus, Baldwin said.

The school bus was heading to Marietta High School at the time of the accident.
