Mariettan Accused of Translation Scam

have a warrant for a 46-year-old Marietta man accused of conning a woman after telling her he was a translator for Dunwoody’s traffic court.

Carlos Sanchez Esquivel is charged with forgery in a scam against Yovany Baltazar-Cardenas, 27, police said.

Baltazar-Cardenas was issued traffic citations in September and had a court date to deal with the tickets. Esquivel told her not to go to court because she was in the country illegally, police said.

Esquivel reportedly said he was a translator for the court and would take care of the citations. He then gave the woman falsified court documents to make it appear the tickets had been resolved.

Esquivel charged Baltazar-Cardenas more than $1,000 in court and probation fees, police said.

Baltazar-Cardenas was arrested for failure to appear in court.
