Missing UGA Student Found Dead

Gwinnett County Police confirmed that the body discovered in the single vehicle accident on Highway 316 was that of missing UGA student, Quinton Ayers, 22.

Cpl. Jake Smith, public information officer with the GCPD, confirmed that the vehicle Ayers was found in was a match to the black GMC pickup he was last seen driving.

"The vehicle was found about 40 feet from the roadway. It was resting on its side and appeared to have hit a tree at significant speed," Smith said in a press release. "The vehicle was called in by a passing tractor trailer driver, who could just make out the truck's undercarriage from his elevated position."

Man Drowns in Lake Lanier on Labor Day

A Labor Day outing at Lake Lanier ended tragically for a 25-year-old Doraville man. 

Authorities say Kyle Miller was swimming across a cove at the day use area of Van Pugh Parkwith two other people just before 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 3 when he went under.

His body was recovered in about 15 feet of water by the Hall County Dive Team at about 4:22 p.m.

North Fulton Student Reporting from Democrat National Convention

Andrew Liang, a 13-year-old student at Autrey Mill Middle School in Johns Creek, is covering the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC, this week for Scholastic News.

Liang is an experienced Kid Reporter for the Scholastic News Kids Press Corps, having covered many issues, including education, the economy, and disaster relief during the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan. He has been reporting since at least December 2009, as shown in his blog on Scholastic News Press.

In addition to being a member of the Scholastic News Kids Press Corps, Liang is a member of the Georgia Boys Choir, traveling with them to Europe this summer for performances. He's also a member of Boy Scout Troop 2000, which is sponsored by Johns Creek Presbyterian Church. At Autrey Mill Middle School, he's a member of the Lion News Network (LNN) team.
