Mother Charged in Connection with Missing Girl

Cobb Police arrested and charged Keyonna Grant of Mableton with contributing to the delinquency of a minor resulting in serious injury, a misdemeanor, after her 5-year-old daughter, Taniya Gilbert, went missing on Friday around 11:30 p.m.

Taniya was returned safely at 7:25 a.m. on Saturday by a man who discovered the girl sleeping soundly in his truck.

According to Sgt. Dana Pierce, spokesman for the Cobb County Police, Grant instructed Taniya to go to sleep in the truck while she returned to a gathering of friends and family at Whisperwood Apartments in Austell.

A growler store is coming to Market Village just a few short weeks after .

Owner Brandon King said Smyrna Beer Market will open in as early as mid-October. The store will carry about 45 different varieties of draught beer that customers can buy in half-gallon growlers, large glass bottles used for holding craft beer.

“We’re trying to maintain local and regional focus on those,” King said. “All the bottles and beer we’ll carry will be the harder to find stuff for beer connoisseurs.”

In June at the Historic Mable House, officials broke ground on the road-widening project, which begins at Clay Road and ends at Hicks Road.

The $4.9 million project first approved in 1994 had been continually delayed due to lack of funding from GDOT and redesign issues once traffic began to pick up on the busy Mableton artery. Over the almost 20 years since then, there have been approximately 35 Cobb Board of Commissioners agenda items related to the project, officials said at the June groundbreaking.

The first project will widen the narrow road to two 11-foot wide lanes in both the northbound and southbound directions, divided by a 20-foot-wide raised median.
