A motorist about 1:35 this morning struck a pedestrian wearing dark jeans and a black shirt, who appeared to have improperly crossed the highway, Cartersville Police Department Chief Thomas Culpepper said in a news release. 

The man hit by a McDonald's worker on Highway 41 near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive was seriously injured and taken by ambulance to Kennestone Hospital, but died in surgery. See Cartersville Patch for more on this story.

Council To Weigh Alcohol Waiver For Festival 

The Woodstock City Council will consider waiving parts of its alcohol ordinance on Monday.

The council will hold a called meeting and work session to consider a waiver to allow the serving and consumption of alcohol at the Park at City Center and to temporarily close East Main Street just north of Arnold Mill Road for patron safety. See Woodstock-Towne Lake Patch for more on this story.

One Suspect Arrested in Cumming Home Invasion

One of the suspects involved in a home invasion earlier this week was apprehended in Forsyth County by authorities, according to Sgt. Bryan Zimbardi of the Cumming Police Department.

"We have arrested one person," said Zimbardi.

Shaeem McLaren, 20, of Cumming was arrested and charged with armed robbery, theft by taking, and burglary in the first degree, according to Karleen Chalker of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office. He is being held at the Forsyth County Detention Center. His bond has been set at $16,720. See Cumming Patch for more on this story. 

Printz Picks a New School

Lassiter High School quarterback Eddie Printz announced over the weekend he has accepted a football scholarship to play at the University of Missouri.

Printz, who has led No. 2-ranked Lassiter with nearly 1,500 yards passing and 13 touchdowns as a senior, was forced to renew his recruiting process when UCLA, coached by former Atlanta Falcons coach Jim Mora, withdrew a previous scholarship offer. Northeast Cobb Patch has more on the story.

Lingerie Football League Sets Atlanta Tryout Date

The planned Atlanta Franchise of the Lingerie Football League, which has scheduled two games in Gwinnett in 2013, has announced an open tryout date in the Atlanta area in November.

According to a league news release, the tryout will be on Saturday, Nov. 10 in Fairburn. Suwanee Patch has the latest on the story.
