A woman who appears to be in her late 60s was flown to Grady Hospital in Atlanta after an SUV struck her in Canton's Great Sky subdivision.

BCSO Remembers Fallen Officer

 authorities remember one of their own today—a brother law enforcement officer who made the ultimate sacrifice on this day in 1970.

Special Deputy Samuel Boyd Simpson was 51 years old and worked on the Sheriff’s Rescue Unit. He was not a full-time deputy and usually rode with regular deputies on weekends to help with calls for service.

Budget Cuts Hit Georgia Perimeter's Alpharetta Campus

 had to cut 10 staff from its Alpharetta campus and use $1 million intended for wet labs to help cut its budget deficit.

Robb Watts, the college's president, told staff in May 2012 that the college had a $16 million deficit. It turned out the budget problems were worse than that. The AJC reported earlier this month that the college had cut $25 million from its budget, but learned it had to cut another $1.6 million.
