$1M in Fake Goods Seized in Marietta

Eight people are arrested in a raid on the Marietta Flea Market on Saturday.

seized more than $1 million in counterfeit goods during a raid Saturday at the , according to a press release from Officer David Baldwin.

Eight people were arrested on charges related to selling counterfeit goods.

Officers also cited numerous building and fire code violations and cited 14 businesses for operating without business licenses at the market at 550 Franklin Rd. The Marietta Flea Market is in a strip mall just off the South Marietta Parkway, close to Interstate 75.

Among the counterfeit items were purses, wallets, jewelry and clothing.

Police started looking into the market several months ago after receiving complaints that people were openly selling counterfeit goods.

The raid involved 40 Marietta police officers and detectives as well as members of the , Code Enforcement and Business License Division.

Maj. Marty Ferrell and lead investigator Detective Shane Merritt coordinated and led the raid.

The investigation continues, and additional charges and arrests are pending, police said.
