Possible E. Coli Contamination

Ground beef distributed in Georgia may be contaminated with bacteria.

Tyson Fresh Meats Inc. is recalling around 131,300 pounds of ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli.

The products being recalled include: generic label 73% lean/27% fat ground beef with a product code of D-0211 LWI, which was distributed in Georgia, Delaware, Florida, Maryland, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin; Kroger-brand 73% lean/27% fat ground beef with a product code of D-0211 QW, which was distributed in Tennessee and Indiana; and Butcher's Brand 73% lean/27% fat ground beef with a product code of D-0211 LWIF, which was distributed in North Carolina and South Carolina. 

All the beef was produced Aug. 23 and has a "best before" or "freeze by" date of Sept. 12.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service said it was notified of the problem when Ohio health authorities reported that a family in Butler County had become ill with E. coli.

Ground beef in the family's home tested positive for the bacteria.
