Real Soldiers Accused in Paintball Burglary

Police stopped the break-in at On Target Airsoft and arrested two men from Fort Gordon on Feb. 26.

Two 18-year-old Fort Gordon soldiers are accused of attempted burglary Feb. 26 at On Target Airsoft, a Williams Drive business that sells paint pellet guns and gear.

According to Marietta police, the men triggered the store alarm, which sent officers to the location. Officers reported seeing the men trying to gain entrance through the business's back door.

Stephen Anthonye Newsome was carrying a loaded pistol when arrested, police said, and Michael Fraser had a loaded shotgun. Both face multiple charges, including burglary, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and conspiracy to commit a crime.

The men admitted they were planning to steal Airsoft weapons, according to the arrest warrants.

No one was inside On Target Airsoft during the attempted burglary.

Newsome remains in the Cobb County Jail on a $50,000 bond. Fraser posted a $50,000 bond and was released Feb. 28.

Jail records confirm that Newsome and Fraser are employed by the U.S. Army. The residential address on both warrants belongs to the 551st Signal Battalion at Fort Gordon.

Northeast Cobb Patch contacted the 551st Signal Battalion but was told that no one was available to talk about the men or situation.
