Shooting Puts Marietta College on Lockdown

Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta was placed on lockdown following a shooting Tuesday night. The victim and perpetrator left the scene before police arrived.

A shooting at Southern Polytechnic State University left one man injured Tuesday night.

The school was placed on lockdown around 6 p.m.

The shooting occurred in the parking lot near the engineering and technology building, according to Marietta Police spokesman David Baldwin.

The victim, identified as Jason Moore, 23, a commuter student, and the suspect left prior to police arrival. Moore left to presumably get treatment for his injuries, Baldwin said. The perpetrator was last seen on foot.

SPSU Police were first on the scene. Marietta and Cobb Police also responded, and the police departments did building sweeps as a precaution.

“This was an isolated incident between the two people and not done at random,” Baldwin said. “Evidently there was some sort of altercation between the two.”

The lockdown was lifted around 7 p.m.

Moore was found at Grady Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was released last night.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Southern Polytechnic State University Police Department at 678-915-5555.

Good grief, if the rifle can kill someone, why on earth would you give it to a five-year-old? ThisRead More one just boggles my mind. I hope that even the NRA has a problem with this.

This is a fine example of freedom being too much to handle for some folks. The idiots who gave theRead More kid the gun should be jailed. Its obvious that a 5 year old should neither posses, nor handle a firearm period. Having said that I am a full supporter of the Second Amendment and the NRA. However we cannot measure the validity of the right to bear arms by using these idiot parents as a case study.
