Student from Marietta Found Dead in His Residence Hall Room at UGA

Officers responded to Vandiver Hall in Athens after University of Georgia Residence Life personnel asked them to check on a student

On January 14, 2014, at approximately 7:28 p.m. officers responded to Vandiver Hall in Athens after University of Georgia Residence Life personnel asked them to check on a student, according to a UGA press release.

Officers arrived and were directed to a fifth floor suite. Officers entered the suite and attempted to contact UGA student David Peacock Braun, 21, of Marietta, the person in question. Officers subsequently entered Braun’s room by key and observed that he was obviously deceased. 

EMS was requested and responded to the scene. At 7:56pm, an EMS technician who also serves as a deputy coroner pronounced Braun dead. His body was transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death.

Preliminary investigation does not show any obvious signs of foul play. There is no information that indicates any threat or safety concern to the University community.
