Video Captures Suspicious Activity at WellStar Kennestone Hospital

The suspect later told authorities that he was under the influence of a prescription muscle relaxant at the time of the incident.

A Powder Springs man was captured on video rummaging through the information desk at WellStar Kennestone Hospital and looking through every car in the parking deck.

Deon Demonta Miller was already facing seven charges in connection with the incident. Thursday, three new charges were added.

According to a Cobb County criminal warrant, Miller entered the hospital about 4:36 a.m. April 30 and approached the main information desk.

"He then sat down at the desk, which was unoccupied, and proceeded to open or attempt to open every cabinet and drawer of the desk," a Marietta police officer wrote in a Cobb County criminal warrant. "He rummaged through at least one drawer."

Additionally, Miller allegedly "entered nine automobiles in the Kennestone Hospital parking decks before and after his activities at the desk," the officer wrote. Some of the cars were unlocked.

He allegedly entered a silver 1985 Mercedes 380 through an unlocked door after damaging the convertible top in his first entry attempt, and stole a key chain as well as a Dell laptop computer, according to the warrant.

Two Wachovia Visa cards, one Bank of America debit card, one LGE Community Credit Union card, and $20 cash were taken from a 2013 Silver Nissan Versa.

And Miller is also accused of taking a backpack that contained a Sony HD video camera, a Nikon D5000 camera, two zoom lenses for the camera, a flash for the camera, various filters and other camera accessories from an orange 2011 Jeep Wrangler, records show.

The "backpack was located behind some bushes adjacent to the parking deck after a concerned citizen called to report a suspicious package to 911," the officer wrote in the warrant.

Miller was arrested in the parking deck on charges that include nine counts of entering an automobile or other motor vehicle with intent to commit theft or felony as well as one count of loitering.

His fingerprints were discovered on at least two of the vehicles. At the time, he later told authorities, he was under the influence of a prescription muscle relaxant.

He is in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center in lieu of $35,000 bond.
