Woman Wanted for Operating Unlicensed Care Facility Turns Herself In

Marietta Police, along with Adult Protective Services and Cobb County Police, served a search warrant on the residence on Laurel Springs Lane in Marietta and found the facility to be unlicensed and in poor condition.

Raequel Penny turned herself in Tuesday and is in custody at the Cobb County Jail. 

One family has already been reunited with their loved ones and investigators are working on reuniting and/or arranging proper care for the rest of the seniors under Penny's care.

The Marietta Police Department is seeking the public’s help in locating Raequel Penny who is wanted for operating an unlicensed care facility.

On Aug. 21, the Marietta Police Department received information from the Georgia Healthcare Facility Regulation (HFR) Division about an unlicensed care home being operated in the 900 block of Laurel Springs Lane in Marietta, according to Marietta Police Public Information Officer David Baldwin. 

An attempt to inspect the home was made by HFR, but they were turned away by an employee of the facility. 

The Marietta Police Department, along with Adult Protective Services and the Cobb County Police Department, served a search warrant on the residence to further the investigation, Baldwin said.

Detectives found the facility to be "unlicensed and in poor condition." 

An arrest warrant was later taken for Penny, but she closed the care home prior to being served with the arrest warrant.

Anyone with knowledge of the whereabouts of Raequel Penny is asked to contact Detective Daniel Ohmann at 770-794-5372 or the Marietta Police Department Tip Line at 770-794-6990. 

If anyone has either stayed at Penny’s unlicensed facility or has had a loved one stay there, they are also asked to contact Detective Ohmann.

The investigation is still ongoing and additional charges could be pending.
