The 94th Security Forces was recognized as the 2010 Air Force Reserve Command Outstanding Security Forces Unit of the Year for numerous contributions and actions to include deployment participations, community activity involvement and successful administrative initiatives. The AFRC award is separated into two categories; the outstanding full-time unit and the outstanding tenant/associate unit. The full-time unit award went to the 94SFS and was presented by Col. Mary Roehl, Air Force Reserve Command Chief of Security Forces, and was accepted by Lt. Col. Timothy H. Martz, unit commander.
Individual awards were presented as well. Staff Sgt. Adam Pollow was recognized as the Air Force Reserve Command's 2010 Non-commissioned Officer of the Year. His accomplishments included control of more than 300 personnel and 120 vehicles entering the installation daily with no security breaches, as well as the confiscation of over 100 unauthorized items and contraband from third country nationals during quarters inspection during his deployment to Kirkuk Air Base, Iraq.
Additionally, the "Airman 1st Class Elizabeth N. Jacobson Award for Expeditionary Excellence" was presented to Senior Airman Matthew Whaley for his accomplishments during his deployment to Kirkuk Air Base, Iraq and included defeating local nationals smuggling AK47 weapons, initiating explosive responses, and ensuring safe and expedient movements by more than 250 coalition convoys.
The "Jacobson Award" recognizes outstanding accomplishments and war fighting contributions by younger members and was created in the name of Airman 1st Class Elizabeth N. Jacobson, the first security forces member to be killed in action. She was killed on September 28, 2005, while supporting convoy security operations in the vicinity of Safwan, Iraq.
After the presentations, Col. Timothy E. Tarchick, 94th Airlift Wing Commander, passed on his congratulations and praised unit personnel for their contributions.
