Air Traffic Control Tower Nears Completion

The new tower at Dobbins Air Reserve Base will replace a 40-year-old tower and is due for an August completion.

new air traffic control tower, nearing its final stages of construction at 70 percent completion, is environmentally built using the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design specifications.

It stands 100 feet tall, encompasses nearly 7,000 square feet and includes an elevator. The old tower is 40 years old and 60 feet tall with less than 2,400 square feet and no elevator.

Other advantages of the new tower include improved visibility, a more efficient HVAC system, and the addition of offices and meeting rooms.

The new rotating light beacon is behind Building 747. The old tower will be demolished, and the old beacon will be removed.

August is the scheduled operational date for the new control tower.
