Blood Drive, Plays, Sing-Along, Parade

There is an abundance of activity in Marietta this weekend: a parade, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration, farmers market, tree planting, blood drive, garden work day and more.

1. Join the Watershed Stewardship Program for a Rain Garden Work Day Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Cobb County Water Quality Lab, 662 South Cobb Dr. Come learn more about the garden and get your hands dirty.

2. will sponsor a blood drive on Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Training Room, 112 Haynes St. Call 770-794-5461 for more information.

All participants will receive a Red Cross t-shirt and will be entered to win one of three pairs of Delta Airlines tickets.

3. Come see The Ladies Man, a comedy adapted from then French play Tailleur pour Dames by Georges Feydeau, at on Sunday at 7 p.m.

4. will be playing at the on Friday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

5. Come to the Saturday at 8 p.m. to sing along with Mamma Mia! The live organ pops variety show and sing-along start at 7:30 p.m. The film starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $7 for children, students and seniors.

6. The Marietta Tree Keepers are calling for volunteers of all ages to come out and plant trees at on Saturday. Volunteers are asked to arrive at 8:30 a.m. to enjoy donuts and hot beverages before digging in to work at 9 a.m.

7. Come to the Square on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon for the Marietta Square Farmers Market.

8. The public is invited to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at Cobb County's 26th anniversary celebration at the from 10 a.m. to noon Monday.

The theme of the event, which is free and open to the public, is "Celebrate the Life, the Dream, the Legacy." The ceremony will feature the annual presentation of the "Living the Dream" award to a community member who demonstrates the ideals King exemplified.

9. The Martin Luther King Jr. Parade begins at Lockheed Credit Union and goes up Fairground Street, left on Roswell and to Marietta Square. The parade will begin at 1 p.m. and end at 3 p.m. on Monday.
