C-130s Take Refuge at Dobbins

Planes from Savannah come to Marietta to avoid the fallout of Hurricane Irene.

Georgia Air National Guard C-130s from Savannah took refuge from Hurricane Irene at on Thursday.

As of 5 a.m. today, the center of Irene was well east of Florida and north of the Bahamas, moving northward toward the Outer Banks of North Carolina at 14 mph, the National Hurricane Center said. It had weakened slightly to a Category 2 storm with sustained winds of 110 mph but is expected to return to Category 3 status today.

The center's latest forecast track call for the storm to slam North Carolina early Saturday, then continue up the East Coast.
