Council Appoints, Reappoints Members to Four City Boards

Marietta City Council appointed members to the Planning Commission and Marietta Visitors Bureau, appointed and reappointed members to the Marietta Redevelopment Corporation and reappointed a member to the Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals on March 6.

Planning Commission Appointment

• Appointed Cheryl Richardson to Ward 1 of Planning Commission
• Three-year term
• Expires March 6, 2016

What Planning Commission does:

• Review and recommend comprehensive plan or amendments for development of political jurisdiction to City Council for adoption
• Review and recommend zoning ordinance or resolution and map for its political jurisdiction to City Council for adoption
• Review and recommend regulations for the subdivision of land within its political jurisdiction to City Council for adoption and administer regulations that may be adopted

Construction Board of Adjustment and Appeals Appointment

• Reappointed Steve Arrants to Ward 2 of Construction Board of Adjustment and Appeals
• Five-year term
• Expires March 5, 2018

What Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals does

• Hears appeals of decisions and interpretations of Marietta's building official
• Considers variances of construction codes

MRC Board Appointment, Reappointments

• Appointed James G. Fausett to MRC board of directors
• Two-year term
• Expires April 10, 2015
• Reappointed Floyd Northcutt, Brian Strack, Diane Lidz and Pete Bilson to MRC board of directors
• Two-year terms
• Expire April 10, 2015

What MRC does

• Serves as the redevelopment agency of city of Marietta at the pleasure of City Council
• Helps revitalize neighborhoods, commercial areas and other distressed properties to strengthen the tax base of city
• Advises City Council on redevelopment matters and helps implement its redevelopment expectation for Marietta
• Carefully evaluates redevelopment opportunities and reuse options for assembled properties
• Facilitates private and public investment for redevelopment projects

• Appointed Ward 7 City Councilman Philip Goldstein to Marietta Visitors Bureau board
• Expires Dec. 31, 2013
