Hiring Our Heroes

An American Legion event brought together 167 job seekers and 32 employers for a common goal of hiring military veterans.

A "Hiring our Heroes" event was recently sponsored by the American Legion was held at American Legion Post 160, in Smyrna. The hiring fair brought together 167 job seekers and 32 employers for a common goal of hiring veterans of active duty, Guard and Reserves, and eligible spouses.

"This was an average size fair but in conversation with employers they were very pleased with the unusual high caliber of qualifications job seekers had," said Kathryn Poynton, Military Fellow, Veterans Employment Programs, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Washington, DC .

The nationwide initiative conducted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is to help veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment and is co-sponsored locally by the Cobb Chamber of Commerce, U.S. Department of Labor Veterans' Employment and Training Service, Georgia Department of Labor, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program and the United States Army Reserve.
