Live from the Cobb Commissioners Meeting

The board is meeting at 9 this morning at the government complex at 100 Cherokee St.

We're here live at the Cobb County commissioners' regular meeting. It starts at 9 a.m. with a rather light agenda. But who knows, there could be a surprise from this bunch. The board is expected to approve several consent agenda items including the support of a new senior living facility in Northeast Cobb and an application for grant monies by the Emergency Management Agency.

9 a.m. The pledge and invocation are done.

9:07 The board is recognizing the first-quarter customer service awards. Recipients include Tanya Moore, Randy Copeland, Sherron O'Conner, Jerry Blalock, Michael Aston, Emily Keener, Warren Hiedel, Kim Wakefield and Vinu Chandron.

9:15 Public comment time. Two speakers.

9:19 A Kennesaw park is seeking support from the commissioners in fundraising efforts. The speaker encourages everyone to go to www.campmcdonaldpark.org and vote for the park for the chance to win $25,000 for improvements.

9:22 Commission gadfly Craig Hartfoot is up next. He says the county should collect the money owed the county in taxes and then the furlough days the county is taking wouldn't be necessary.

9:27 The consent agenda is approved. This includes support for the 100-apartment senior living complex in Northeast Cobb and the grant money the Emergency Management Agency is seeking for renovations at its operations center.

9:31 The board approves several items related to the county's transportation agency.

9:32 The board approves a deal with Choate Construction to return $160,268 to the county because the new parking deck in downtown Marietta came in under budget.

9:35 Several hearings are being held to determine the status of alcohol licenses for businesses.
