Keep Up With Marietta Voters

Voting at has been slow all day, a poll worker said. As of 2 p.m., the location had seen under 100 voters. The poll worker said she does not expect Zion Baptist Church to get busy later in the day. 

A poll worker at said that there has been a "steady flow" of voters throughout the day, but she expects it to get busy as people get off work. 

"You have to get out and vote," one Marietta resident stressed. "If you don't vote you don't have a voice," she said.

At between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m., support for Mitt Romney was high.

"I'm voting for the country's future and the safety of our country," one Romney supporter said. Romney is the favorite in Northeast Cobb Patch's Sunday poll.

As of 10 a.m., Marietta High School had seen 142 voters.

"I'm voting for alcohol sales," a life-long resident of Marietta said. "It means better opportunities for businesses."

It was a steady first hour of voting at and , with 44 residents casting their vote at Marietta Middle School before 7:55 and 47 voting at Hickory Hills before 8:05.

The item foremost on voters' minds this morning seemed to be the for at .

"I have two small children who will be in there (Marietta High School)," a Marietta woman said. "I'm willing to take a tax increase for the auditorium."

"If they wanted one they should have done it when they built the school," another woman said at Tuesday morning. 

"We already have enough other facilities in Marietta," Pam Wood agreed. 

"I'll vote on everything, but I came out for Marietta High School," Ronald, of Marietta, said. "Marietta city has always been a strong supporter of education and preparing our children."

When it came to talking about Sunday sales, voters had little to say. One Marietta man, however, joked, "I like to drink and my wife's a teacher, take what you want from that."

As for the , was the favored candidate this morning. 

"I like his overall attitude of taking charge and getting things done," a 12-year Marietta resident said of Gingrich. 

"I choose ," Cynthia Parten of Marietta said. "I think he has more experience and would be the best debater against Obama."

In during early in-person voting, which ended Friday, 11,205 Republican, 883 Democratic and 91 nonpartisan ballots were cast. Absentee votes included 2,886 Republicans, 253 Democrats and 18 nonpartisan voters. All totaled, that's 15,336 votes as of Friday.
