Marietta Burn Ban Lifts Oct. 1

The burn ban for the city of Marietta will be lifted Oct. 1.

The city will begin picking up residential yard debris every Wednesday, however if you opt to burn adhere to the following regulations:

• A burn permit must be obtained prior to burning and is good for that day only. To request a burn permit click here or call 770-794-5466.
• Burning must be at least 50 feet from any structure.
• A charged water hose must be at the fire.
• Never leave the fire unattended.
• Clear 25 feet or more area around debris pile.
• Never use flammable liquids to start fire.
• Ensure fire is completely extinguished when the burn is done.
• The fire marshal may prohibit any open burning when atmospheric conditions or local circumstances make such burning hazardous. Fire crews are designated to stop burns that are deemed unsafe by the company officer.
• Remember, smoke and heat from fire rises, so lower-hanging branches and leaves can be considered combustible material and could pose a fire risk as well. Care should be taken to ensure that the flames and heat do not get high enough to damage overhead foliage.
• Burning is permitted between the hours of 10 a.m. and one hour before sunset.

• Shrub clippings
• Pine straw
• Vegetative disposal from storm damage

Tools Needed for a Safe Burn

• Rake to create debris-free ring around fire area
• Charged water hose
• Shovel
• Proper clothing (long pants, long sleeves, boots, gloves) and safety glasses
