Marietta General Election Guide: What You Need to Know

What's on the ballot, where to vote in Marietta, Cobb election night watch parties, contested races in Cobb, the charter school amendment and the presidential race—here's what you need to know before heading to the polls Nov. 6.

In Cobb, the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at all precincts. Voters must bring photo ID under state law to participate.

According to Cobb Elections, about a quarter of the county's nearly 400,000 registered voters cast ballots in early voting.

In addition to the presidential race involving Democratic incumbent, Cobb voters will be deciding between Republican incumbent Phil Gingrey and Democrat Patrick Thompson for the 11th District U.S. House seat.

Residents will also vote in the State Senate District 6 race between incumbent Senator Doug Stoner (D-Smyrna) and Republican newcomer Hunter Hill.

Two Georgia Public Service Commission seats are on the ballot, as is the controversial Charter School Amendment to the state Constitution.

Republican Cobb commission Chairman Tim Lee was re-elected after winning an August runoff against former Chairman Bill Byrne. There is no Democratic candidate, although East Cobb resident Craig Harfoot, a Republican candidate for the job in 2010, is waging a write-in campaign. Take a look at other county-wide races on the ballot.

Good grief, if the rifle can kill someone, why on earth would you give it to a five-year-old? ThisRead More one just boggles my mind. I hope that even the NRA has a problem with this.

This is a fine example of freedom being too much to handle for some folks. The idiots who gave theRead More kid the gun should be jailed. Its obvious that a 5 year old should neither posses, nor handle a firearm period. Having said that I am a full supporter of the Second Amendment and the NRA. However we cannot measure the validity of the right to bear arms by using these idiot parents as a case study.
