Marietta School System Puts 2012 Budget Up for Final Review, Vote

The public can voice opinions on the tentative balanced budget of $74.5 million, which is down 4 percent from the current year's budget.

The puts its final budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2012 before the public in a hearing at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the. The board plans to vote on the adoption on the budget at its regular meeting, which follows at 7 p.m.

The budget has been available for public review since the school board voted 7-0 on May 17 to tentatively approve the budget as presented by Superintendent Emily Lembeck. The balanced budget of $74.5 million compares with the current year’s budget of $77.6 million, which is a decrease of 4 percent or $3.1 million.

Fiscal Year 2012 runs from July 1, 2011, to June 30, 2012.

According to the budget, school officials expect the system to get $41 million of its revenues from local taxes in 2012, as well as nearly $29 million from state sources and another $1.1 from local revenue sources. In the expenses column, the system expects to spend $50.1 million on instruction, $3.3 million on student support, $3.5 million on student transportation and $6.2 million for general and school administration.

The system carries a $16.4 million operating reserve from its 2011 budget and expects to finish Fiscal Year 2012 with almost $13 million in that category.
