Marietta Educators to Attend Teachers Academy

The A.L. Burruss Elementary and Marietta Center for Advanced Academics teachers will partner with other exceptional math and science teachers from across the nation to build expertise in facilitating student learning.

Marietta City Schools educators Jennifer Kanzler, M.Ed., and Kara Householder are among 200 highly-qualified third- through fifth-grade teachers selected by the National Council of Teachers in Mathematics and the National Science Teachers Association to attend the 2012 Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy at Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, N.J. from July 22 to 27. 

“I am proud that once again, two of our teachers, will participate in this professional learning opportunity,” states Dr. Emily Lembeck, MCS Superintendent. “Jennifer and Kara are both excellent educators, and it is easy to see why they were selected for this summer learning experience.”

At the Academy, Kanzler, a fifth grade teacher at , and Householder, a fourth grade teacher at the (MCAA), will partner with other exceptional math and science teachers from across the nation to build expertise in facilitating student learning through problem solving and inquiry.

The  Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy helps teachers use the tools of mathematics to build understanding and connections to science concepts; understand how children learn and apply that to classroom instruction; and model "best practices" in teaching and learning.
