500 to Graduate from Southern Poly

The youngest graduate is 19 years old. The oldest is 60.

More than 500 students will graduate this Saturday from Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta.

Among the degree candidates is Andrew Gifford, who will be the first person to receive a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Southern Poly.

The School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Engineering Technology and Management will award degrees to graduates at 10 a.m. The School of Architecture and Construction Management, the School of Computing and Software Engineering and the School of Engineering will hand out diplomas at 2 p.m.

Helmuth Ludwig, the CEO of the North American Industry Sector of Siemens, is the commencement speaker.

The Class of 2013 includes students from 18 states and 32 foreign countries, said Diane Payne, the spokeswoman for Southern Poly.
