AT&T Executive to Give Commencement Address at SPSU

Southern Polytechnic State University press release

Scott M. Frank, president and CEO of AT&T Intellectual Property (AT&T-IP), will deliver the address at Southern Polytechnic State University’s 108th commencement ceremonies on Sat., Dec. 14, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Gynamsium. SPSU plans to confer approximately 284 undergraduate and 98 graduate degrees during the fall ceremonies.

In 2007, Frank assumed leadership of AT&T-IP following the merger of AT&T and BellSouth. He has since led the building of the corporate-wide Innovation Pipeline program, which uses crowd-sourcing to implement employees’ innovative ideas quickly. AT&T-IP has also grown the patent portfolio significantly to approximately 10,000 patents worldwide, and has successfully licensed and sold patents, trademarks and copyrighted technology, adding hundreds of millions of dollars to AT&T’s bottom line.

Frank is a member of the boards of directors of the Intellectual Property Owners Association, the Georgia Tech Research Corporation and the Mary Hall Freedom House, an organization that helps and rehabilitates women with substance-abuse and domestic-violence problems. He is also chair of the Georgia State University Law School’s Intellectual Property Advisory Board, former chair of the State Bar of Georgia’s Intellectual Property Law Section and a member of the Industry Trade Advisory Committee on Intellectual Property Rights.

Frank earned a Bachelor of Science in Electical Engineering from Georgia Tech and received his law degree and a master’s in business administration from Georgia State University. He practiced intellectual property law in Atlanta for seven years at Troutman Sanders LLP, was an engineer with Nortel for five years and a computer analyst with AT&T for two years.
