Chattahoochee Technical College in 2014

While no new programs began this semester, the Marietta Campus welcomed the addition of the Clinical Laboratory Technology. The program, which began in the Fall of 2012, will now call the Marietta Campus home.

Chattahoochee Technical College opened the semester with an influx of new and returning students. As of the first day of classes, approximately 10,800 students were on the rolls for the college’s diploma, certificate and degree programs. The numbers are in line with recent enrollment numbers from the past year, which have averaged approximately 11,000 students.

While no new programs began this semester, the Marietta Campus welcomed the addition of the Clinical Laboratory Technology. The program, which began in the Fall of 2012, will now call the Marietta Campus home.

“The program was moved to a lab that has been specifically designed for the program,” explained Chattahoochee Technical College Health Sciences Dean Ron Webb. “By centralizing the classes here in Marietta, we are able to reach more students in this critical field.”

Clinical Laboratory Technology is a seven semester associate of applied science degree program. Students learn to perform clinical laboratory procedures under the supervision of a qualified pathologist and/or clinical laboratory scientist. Classroom training is integrated with clinical experiences under the medical direction of cooperating hospitals. Graduation from this program allows students to take a national certification examination which is necessary for clinical employment. The program is designed to prepare students to work in hospitals, blood banks, physician offices, research centers and other laboratory settings.

Campuses such as Marietta and North Metro in Acworth remain popular choices for students with 70 percent of students attending at those two locations. Online classes remain a popular option, as they offer flexibility in scheduling that many students need. Almost 4,100 students are enrolled in at least one online class with 1,158 students taking classes exclusively online.

Campus enrollment as of Jan. 13 stands at:

  • Austell Campus, 96
  • Appalachian Campus, 552
  • North Metro Campus, 3,216
  • Marietta Campus, 4,536
  • Canton Campus, 1,054
