Cobb County School Board Members Called to Appear Before Grand Jury

On March 25, members of the Cobb County Board of Education were called to appear before the county's grand jury. They will appear on Friday, April 1.

On March 25, the Cobb County grand jury sent a request to meet with all seven members of the county’s Board of Education on April 1 at 9:30 a.m. in the Grand Jury Room at 10 East Park Square in Marietta.

“We can’t discuss anything that the grand jury does, ” said Kathy Watkins, director of communications for the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office.

Watkins said the grand jury will have a “general presentment” of any recommendations, complete disclosure of the individuals appearing before them and what they discussed on May 5, “but until then, it’s private.”

A source close to the situation told Patch that the balanced calendar is one of the issues to be discussed.

Cobb County Board of Education Member David Morgan, who serves South Cobb area schools, said that having board members appear before the grand jury  is not "an uncommon occurrence, but they’ve never called the entire board at one time since I’ve been on the board."
