Community Garden at Allgood

Volunteers gathered Friday for the groundbreaking of Marietta's newest community garden at Allgood Elementary School.

Cobb County Master Gardeners, Keep Marietta Beautiful and the North Marietta Neighborhood Association held the ground breaking of Marietta’s newest community garden Oct. 7.

The garden is on the back lot of the old Allgood Elementary School at the corner of Allgood and Pine Streets.

The first raised beds put in are for the use of the Allgood Elementary Head Start program. Students will plant their first crop at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Volunteers hope the garden will grow into a much larger community garden by next spring.

The project is headed by Jo-Evelyn Morris, a member of Cobb County Master Gardeners and the North Marietta Neighborhood Association.
