Marietta BOE Names New Assistant Superintendent for Special Services

The Board of Education of the City of Marietta has named Jody Drum—the current Director of Special Education—as the new Assistant Superintendent for Special Services for Marietta City Schools (MCS).

The Board of Education of the City of Marietta has named Jody Drum—the current Director of Special Education—as the new Assistant Superintendent for Special Services for Marietta City Schools (MCS).

Drum will serve on the Superintendent’s Cabinet and will officially assume the post July 1, 2013, replacing Dr. Donna Ryan, after 7 years of service to the school system.

Ryan was recently named Superintendent of the Clinch County, Georgia school district effective July 1, 2013.

When asked about her promotion, Drum said, “I am honored by the school district’s confidence in my ability to lead the Department of Special Services. I look forward to working collaboratively with an outstanding team of committed colleagues as we continue to make Marietta City Schools the school system of choice.”

Drum brings 28 years of experience in Special Education. She started her career as a special education teacher in Broward County, Florida. After moving to Georgia, she taught at Dickerson Middle School and then at Hightower Trail Middle School. Her passion for educating students with disabilities led her to become an educational diagnostician and eventually a leader in the field– first as a special education supervisor and then as a director of special education.

A graduate of North Georgia College and University, Drum earned a Master of Education in Special Education at that institute, and a Specialist degree in Educational Leadership at Georgia State University.
