Marietta CIty Schools Honors School Psychologists

Marietta City Schools (MCS) saluted the work of its school psychologists during School Psychology Awareness Week 2013, Nov. 11 - 15, 2013.

This year’s School Psychology Awareness Week theme was We Are All In! Teams Work!

Four school psychologists support the needs of students across Marietta City Schools: Dr. Arlene Barrow, Ivette Beach, Caroline Schwefler and David Walker.

“Participating in an academic team, recreational team or educational group can enhance a child’s school experience. School psychologists, serve in a unique role, and they can help students examine the team building skills they possess,” said Jody Drum, MCS Assistant Superintendent for Special Services.

“Teaching our students the importance of building relationships and how to work collaboratively with peers and adults helps them develop the interpersonal skills they will need to be college or career ready,” Drum said.

School psychologists are dedicated to prevention, intervention, diagnostic assessment and progress monitoring. School psychologists help children and youth succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. They collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community for all students.
