Marietta City Students Celebrate Read Across America Day
Marietta City Schools elementary grade students will join millions of their peers nationwide to celebrate the sixteenth annual National Education Association's (NEA) Read Across America Day.
Marietta City Schools (MCS) elementary grade students will join millions of their peers nationwide to celebrate the sixteenth annual National Education Association's (NEA) Read Across America Day, March 1, 2013.
NEA's Read Across America Day, which celebrates Dr. Seuss's birthday and the joys of reading, expects more than 45 million readers, to pick up a book and read.
“Keeping with the spirit of our Marietta Reads! literacy initiative, we encourage adults in our community to read to a child in commemoration of Dr. Seuss’s birthday,” said Jill Sims, MCS Executive Director, Curriculum and Instruction. “Each of our schools also has a number of activities planned.”

- Dr. Seuss Trivia contest during morning announcements, daily winners receive $5 gift certificate for Conference Week Book Fair
- Dr. Seuss books/biographies on display in media center and available for checkout
- Dr. Seuss Trivia contest during morning announcements
- Students participate in Read the Most from Coast to Coast nationwide challenge
- 10-minute read-in in the cafeteria from 2:30-2:40 to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday

- Media center voting ballots for Dr. Seuss books, students can vote for their favorite book
- Blue Devil News segment interviewing students about Dr. Seuss’s Birthday Celebration Memories and favorite Dr. Seuss quotes
- Students reflect on their favorite Dr. Seuss book
- Students create a chain of Dr. Seuss fish at school media center circulation desk with their favorite Seuss title
