Marietta Elementary Choice Academies Random Drawings Scheduled

The random drawings determine student placement for available West Side Elementary kindergarten seats, and wait lists for West Side kindergarten, second and fifth grade, and A.L. Burruss Elementary first grade for the 2013-2014 school year.

Marietta City Schools (MCS) will hold Choice Academies random drawings Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at 5 p.m. at the Central Administrative Offices located at 250 Howard Street in Marietta.

The random drawings determine student placement for available West Side Elementary kindergarten seats, and wait lists for West Side kindergarten, second and fifth grade and A.L. Burruss Elementary first grade for the 2013-2014 school year.

“Our random drawing selection process ensures equity and fairness of placements and wait list positions whenever Choice Academies enrollment requests exceed school or grade level capacities,” said Dayton Hibbs, MCS Associate Superintendent.

“Applicants do not have to be present in order to be included in the drawing. Those not selected for open seats may choose to go on a wait list. Wait lists are viable through the initial days of the 2013-2014 school year.”

Each Choice Academies application has assigned a unique alphanumeric identifier. The random drawing utilizes a bingo-style rotary cage containing alphanumeric balls.

A tally sheet tracks each corresponding applicant’s name that matches with the unique alphanumeric identifier on the Choice application, in the order in which matching balls are randomly drawn. The order in which the applicant’s number is drawn determines student placements and wait list positions for available Choice seats at each school.
