Marietta High Seniors Take Top Honors at State Competition

Students placed in culinary arts, commercial banking and 3D visualization at the 2012 SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills competition.

students recently tested their technical proficiencies at the 2012 SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills competition. MHS senior Kadijah Brookes placed first in Culinary Arts and sernior Amber Ufere placed first in Commercial Baking.

In addition to first place medals, Brookes and Ufere will now compete at the National Championships in Kansas City in June.

The 3D Visualization and Animation team of Antony Willoughby and Edson Ezquivel placed second. Other MHS students competing in the SkillsUSA Georgia T-shirt Design category were Reagan Durham, Lily Foster, Olivia Welischar and Bailey West.

“These students represented Marietta High School well, and their performance is to be commended. Our instructors Ginger Pratt, Tommy Carthers, and David Gilbreath did an excellent job preparing these students to excel by teaching leadership and employability skills,” said Dr. Tim Brown, MHS Career, Technical, and Agriculture Education Director/Assistant Principal, in a press release. 

Over 4,800 students representing Georgia high schools participated in the three-day event that included hands-on skill and leadership contests.

Hundreds of American industries have turned to SkillsUSA as the source for employees who exemplify “Champions at Work” in both skills and attitudes. SkillsUSA helps high school and college students enrolled in career and technical education programs to excel by teaching employability skills in conjunction with occupational skills.
