Marietta School Board Approves Phase II of Excel Compensation Plan

The Board of Education of the City of Marietta approved Phase II of the Marietta City Schools Excel Compensation Plan, to include a transition to tuition reimbursement and the piloting of enhanced teacher roles and responsibilities.

On Dec. 17, 2013, the Board of Education of the City of Marietta approved Phase II of the Marietta City Schools (MCS) Excel Compensation Plan, to include a transition to tuition reimbursement and the piloting of enhanced teacher roles and responsibilities.

In September 2013, the board approved the continuation of research and development of a balanced compensation system for certified teachers.

“The ultimate goal of this work is to improve student achievement by attracting, retaining, and leveraging a highly effective workforce in a manner that is fiscally sustainable, a goal which is consistent with both the district’s charter system petition and strategic plan goals,” said MCS Superintendent Dr. Emily Lembeck.

“We are committed to providing our outstanding, effective educators with additional career ladders that align with improved student learning. The continued development of enhanced roles will increase professional pathway opportunities and career earnings potential for our educators,” added Lembeck. “Tuition reimbursement will also allow teachers to earn advanced degrees that support district goals and research.”
