Marietta Schools Keep Millage Rate at 17.97

The Board of Education votes 5-0 to keep the same rate for the 12th year.

The Marietta Board of Education voted 5-0 at a special called meeting Tuesday night to set the school system's property tax rate at 17.97 mills.

This is the 12th consecutive year the city school system has used that millage rate, which remains one of the lowest in the metro area. The rate for the , for example, is 18.9 mills.

The board June 21. Because the proposed rate was lower than the rollback millage rate, the school board was not required by Georgia law to hold three public hearings before finalizing the rate Tuesday night.

The original press release from said the millage rate had not increased in 10 years, but communications director Thomas Algarin corrected that information, saying the millage rate has not increased since fiscal 2001. Before 2001, the rate was 15.47 mills.
